Skin Rejuvenation

When we age, dead cells accumulate in the superficial layer of the skin (epidermis), and collagen and elastin begin to disappear and thin out in the skin's inner layer (dermis). Any skin rejuvenation procedure's objective is to exfoliate the epidermis so the skin can easily absorb that nutrient and anti-aging agent.

Laser skin rejuvenation is a non-invasive, non-surgical procedure to improve the appearance of the skin, especially skin damaged by the sun and acne scars. This treatment can also decrease the appearance of fine lines around the eyes, mouth, and cheeks.

Laser treatments can improve the loss of skin tone and improve complexion due to scars and sun damage. The laser is a non-ablative laser that stimulates collagen growth and tightens the underlying skin (it does not eliminate excessive or sagging skin).

FAQs

Why are lasers used for skin rejuvenation?

Skin rejuvenation includes several different treatments, but all are designed to leave a softer, smoother surface. Dermabrasion is similar to sanding a surface, while chemical peels peel away skin cells. Lasers provide the same function by removing skin cells, but they also encourage new skin to grow and help tighten the skin. A laser skin treatment can promote the growth of new collagen, the protein that supports the skin. As collagen tends to diminish with age, making skin more likely to sag, skin rejuvenation can help slow this process.

Does it hurt?

Some clients have a flushed look after laser skin rejuvenation, similar to a sunburn. Some patients report an itching or burning sensation with laser skin rejuvenation, but it is not usually painful. The sensations may last for several days. The application of ice usually minimizes or relieves any discomfort. Patients can return to normal activities immediately after laser skin rejuvenation.

What’s the procedure like?

The first step is cleansing the face. Eye protection is necessary for the client. The practitioner slowly passes a wand or hand-held device over the skin. After the procedure, special ointments or creams are used to protect and moisturize the skin. We can suggest what products are best to use.

The procedure usually takes 30 minutes to an hour, depending on the type of treatment and size of the area used. The skin must be protected from the sun for several days after the procedure.

How often should I get this treatment done?

It is up to clients to determine how often they would like these procedures to be done. Depending on your skin's severeness, we suggest clients have sessions every 2-4 weeks.
